Our introduction to winter climbing course takes dedicated winter mountaineers and turns them into winter climbers. Over the five day course you will cover the skills required to make the transition from mountaineer to winter climbing. You will learn the essentialpractical skills whilst enjoying spectacular routes in the stunning Scottish Highlands.
Winter courses are booked on a private basis at a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio. If you have a second person who would join you, the total price is split between both of you.
What will you learn:
- Recap of fundamental winter skills including moving in crampons and ice axe self-arrest
- The use of two ice axes
- Movement skills on snow, ice and mixed ground
- Efficient ropework techniques for ascent or retreat
- Constructing of winter belays placing winter protection – nuts, pegs, and ice screws
- Avalanche risk assessment and avoidance
- Winter mountain navigation
- Route selection, route finding and assessment of conditions

Jack is a qualified Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor (MCI) and trainee British Mountain Guide. As an avid climber, he wants to share his passion and inspire everyone he guides in the mountains. He thrives to provide a safe, adventurous and educational day for all of his clients.


Who is the course for:
Anyone who has completed our Winter Mountaineering Course. The ability to use and ice axe and crampons are essential. Summer mountaineering/rock climbing rope skills are useful. Hill fitness is essential as we will spend 5 big days out in the mountains.
